Accounting Syllabus
HOURS AVAILABLE: Any morning from 7:50 to 8:10 (OFTEN EARLIER) Any time after school 2:50-3:30 and later by appointment. 1st hour prep and 3rd hour library.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:
To introduce students to the generally accepted accounting practices. Students will be able to complete the accounting cycle for service and merchandising businesses organized as sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations.

93-100% A 87-90% B+ 77-80% C+ 67-70% D+

I) UNIT ONE
A) Accounting for a Service Business
1) Know accounting terminology related to an accounting system for a service business organized as a proprietorship.
2) Understand accounting practices related to an accounting system for a service business organized as a proprietorship.
3) Demonstrate accounting procedures used in an accounting system for a service business organized as a proprietorship.
(a) Understand the accounting equation
(b) Analyze transactions into debit and credit parts.
(c) Journalize and post transactions.
(d) Learn cash control systems.
(e) Use worksheets to prepare adjusting entries and financial statements.
(f) Journalize and post adjusting and closing entries.

II) UNIT TWO
A) Partnership Accounting for a Merchandising Business
1) Know accounting terminology related to an accounting system for a merchandising business organized as a partnership.
2) Understand accounting concepts and practices related to an accounting system for a merchandising business organized as a partnership.
3) Demonstrate accounting procedures used in an accounting system for a merchandising business organized as a partnership.
(a) Journalize purchases and cash payments.
(b) Journalize sales and cash receipts.
(c) Posting to general and subsidiary ledgers.
(d) Payroll
(e) Use worksheets to prepare adjusting entries and financial statements.
(f) Journalize and post adjusting and closing entries.

III) UNIT THREE
A) Automated Accounting for a Service Business
B) Know accounting terminology related to an automated accounting system for a service business organized as a proprietorship.
C) Understand accounting concepts and practices related to an automated accounting system for a service business organized as a proprietorship.
D) Demonstrate accounting procedures used in an automated accounting system for a service business organized as a proprietorship.
1) Use automated system on Macintosh computer.
2) Fitness Junction automated business simulation.

IV) UNIT FOUR
A) Corporate Accounting for a Merchandising Business.
1) Know accounting terminology related to an accounting system for a merchandising business organized as a corporation.
2) Understand accounting concepts and practices related to an accounting system for a merchandising business organized as a corporation.
3) Demonstrate accounting procedures used in an accounting system for a merchandising business organized as a corporation.
(a) Journalizing purchases, cash payments, sales, and cash receipts in special journals.
(b) Journalizing uncollectible accounts.
(c) Accounting for plant assets, depreciation, notes and interest.
(d) Accounting for accrued revenue and expenses.
(e) Dividends, worksheets, and financial statements for a corporation.
