Mr. Slack by Sydney Basness Fun, energetic, and a passion for running, all of those describe Mr. Slack. If you have ever seen him around there never seems to be a dull moment. I asked some of his students and they all told me he is a very fun teacher, nothing is ever the same! He grew up in Mankato, MN not to far from here. His own high school mascot was the Scarlet. Growing up Slack participated in cross country, wrestling and track. He loved track so much he is now going to be the varsity boys track coach at BPHS this coming season! When asked his favorite sports team Slack responded, "I'm not big into sports watching, but I would say the US Olympic team.” Slack grew up with one older brother. When college came around Slack chose to become a Warrior and attend Winona State. He got his teaching degree and headed out into the world. BPHS was the first full time teaching job Mr. Slack has had. Before this he was a substitute teacher around the Chicago area for about 2 years. Some of his hobbies include running and camping. On those camping trips he enjoys bringing along his dog Samantha she enjoys it very much! When asked his favorite restaurant, he was deep in thought for a few moments. After hard thoughts, he told me, "I like food cooked with love at home, and pie!" He says it is far better than any restaurant you can find. When I asked what becoming a teacher at such a small school was like he said, "More important than school size is environment, and I enjoy working in such a positive, fun milieu as is found in BPHS." I’ve decided it is just something about the small town everyone loves BPHS. |
